The power of Kangaskoski

I was to look for and photograph different sorts of forest types.

The grove-like heath was located in Kangaskoski, Imatra, surrounding a lean-to. We happened to be there celebrating Sonja’s birthday and boy, was it fun! And I got a chance to locate plants and rehearse identifying them.

The Kangaskoski lean-to is located near the Eastern border. There are three hydroelectric power plants in the area and the most interesting being the oldest wooden one in Finland. The adjacent river is the home of the Ladoga salmon and you can see their spawning place as a light blob in the middle, as a friendly passer by kindly let us know. Use polarized sunglasses to spot them, he said!

The surrounding area is photogenic and a lovely destination for a day trip or even to spend the night in!
